Basinghall Street EC2 runs parallel to Aldermanbury EC2 and Coleman Street and stretches north from Gresham Street EC2, to its junction with Aldermanbury Square EC2 and Basinghall Avenue EC2. Basinghall Street is named after the home of the wealthy Basing family, which was located on this site in the 13th century. Hugh Middleton had an office on Basinghall Street and would often be seen sharing a pipe with Sir Walter Raleigh in his doorway, much to the surprise of passers by. The St Michael Bassishaw church was located on the east side of Basinghall Street until 1899.

Basinghall Street is home to a number or major office developments within the City of London, such as City Place House, located at 55 Basinghall Street EC2. Fuego City Circle, located at 10 Basinghall Street EC2 , serves quality tapas and other Spanish dishes in a fun and informal atmosphere. Fuego City Circle also has a dancefloor with a DJ playing a variety of modern music and old favourites. Basinghall Street is located next to Guildhall Yard EC2, close to the Guildhall, Clockmaker's Museum, Guildhall Art Gallery and the Guildhall Art Gallery.

Basinghall Street is close to a number of places of interest within the City of London, including the Barbican arts centre, which hosts a wide range of cinema, dance and music events throughout the year. The Barbican, which also houses a number of bars and restaurants, including the renowned Searcy's, is located opposite the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Other attractions in close proximity to Basinghall Street include the Museum of London (400m west). The Museum of London provides tours and interactive displays documenting the history of London and the major events that have taken place within the City. The Museum of London, which is free to enter, is open from 10am-17.50pm Monday to Saturday and between 12.00pm-17.50pm on Sundays. Other interesting buildings to visit around Basinghall Street include the Bank of England and the exclusive Royal Exchange. The Monument, designed by Sir Christopher Wren to mark the Great Fire of London, stands 650m south-east of Basinghall Street, on Fish Street Hill EC3 and Monument Street EC3, close to Pudding Lane EC3. Visitors can climb the 311 steps to the viewing platform here to experience amazing views of landmarks such as St Paul's Cathedral, Swiss Re building and Tower 42.

Basinghall Street is located 300m south of Moorgate Station, which provides London Underground services to stations including Kings Cross (3 stops), Liverpool Street (1 stop) and Aldgate (2 stops). Bank Station, which is linked to Monument Underground Station, is located 300m south-east of Basinghall Street and provides extensive London Underground services across 5 lines. Bank Station also runs Docklands Light Railway (DLR) services to stations such as Greenwich, London City Airport, Stratford and Tower Gateway, located 150m from Fenchurch Street mainline station.
