Finsbury Square EC2 is a large green area which has a junction with Sun Street EC2. The west side of Finsbury Square has City Road EC1 running through it. Finsbury Square lies on the edges of the London Borough of Islington although it is more typical of the City of London. First built up in the late 18th century, Finsbury Square was intended to create a ‘West End’ atmosphere in the City business district and different styles of building were built on each side of the Square. Finsbury Square was the first area first recorded as having gas lighting permanently installed. Most of the original buildings were destroyed in the Second World War so most of today’s surrounding offices are relatively new.
Finsbury Square itself consists of grassy areas, well kept flower beds and exotic plants. Famously, there are also bowling greens often used for games of Boules. There are four separate areas used for boules tournaments; parties; and summer events. A very nice attraction for nearby City workers, local residents and tourists. Islington Borough Council also in the process of developing the square retaining the bowling green and creating new lawned areas, trees and seating around the square.
Bright state of the art offices overlook Finsbury Square. Citygate House at 50 Finsbury Square EC2 is a prime example of recent architectural styles in the City. Citygate House at 50 Finsbury House is now Bloomberg’s European Headquarters. Restaurants and cafes are plentiful and include options such as Bar Med and Pret a Manger.

Across City Road on the west of Finsbury Square is Bunhill Fields EC1. Bunhill Fields used to be a cemetery until the mid 19th century. Today, the area acts as a small park with some monuments still standing.
Finsbury Square lies in the middle of a triangle of stations. Moorgate on Moorgate EC2 is the closest underground station south of the square following on from City Road. As well as being a National Rail train station, Moorgate is a stop for the Northern line, Hammersmith and City line, Circle line and Metropolitan line. Liverpool Street train and underground station can be accessed from Finsbury Square via Sun Street EC2. Trains leaving Liverpool Street generally serve the east of England and north-east suburban areas. Notably, the Stansted Express train leaves from Liverpool Street. The Central line, Hammersmith and City line, Metropolitan line and Circle line all stop at Liverpool Street. North of Finsbury Square along City Road is Old Street Underground Station on Old Street EC1. Old Street is a National Rail train station as well as being a Northern line stop.
