Fore Street EC2 is located close to the Barbican centre, between Wood Street EC2 at its western end and London Wall EC2 at its eastern point. Fore Street, which shares a junction with Moor Lane EC2, used to run to Finsbury Pavement EC2 but a large section of the street was destroyed in World War Two. Fore Street was one of the main shopping streets within the northern part of the City of London, up until the mid 19th century.

Fore Street is home to a number of important buildings within the City of London, such as the St Giles Cripplegate church. Built on the site of a Norman place of worship, St Giles Cripplegate was fully refurbished in the 1950's after receiving extensive damage during World War Two. Its 16th century tower remains today and sections of the City's Roman and medieval walls can be seen on this site, where the poet John Milton is buried. Another predominant building located on Fore Street is the 17 floor St Alphage House office complex. This 69m structure is home to a number of international companies and provides excellent views of City landmarks such as St Paul's Cathedral, Swiss Re and Tower 42.

Fore Street is within easy walking distance of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, located on Silk Street EC2, close to the Barbican. The main Barbican centre, the largest multi arts venue in Europe, is situated 100m north-west of Fore Street. The Barbican hosts a wide range of dance, film and world music events, in a spacious setting within the City of London, with the renowned Searcy's restaurant and Waterside Cafe on site for refreshments. The Barbican Theatre and The Pit, as well as the Barbican Library, are all located within the Barbican complex. Other places of interest close to Fore Street include the Grand Hall of the Guildhall, Clockmaker's Museum, Guildhall Art Gallery and the Guildhall Library, all located in Guildhall Yard EC2 (300m south). The popular Museum of London is located 200m west of Fore Street and can be reached via London Wall EC2.

Fore Street is close to a number of London Underground stations within the City and is well served by a number of bus routes including the 43 from London Bridge and the 205 from Kings Cross. Moorgate Station, which provides London Underground and rail services across London, is located 50m north of Fore Street. Moorgate Underground Station runs services to stations including Angel (2 stops), Bank (1 stop) and Tower Hill, which is 150m from Fenchurch Street mainline station (2 stops). Liverpool Street Station, home of the Stansted Express, London Underground and National Rail services, is located 650m east of Fore Street, while Barbican Station, which provides Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan line services, stands 600m north-west.
