Aldermanbury EC2 is situated between Love Lane EC2 and Gresham Street EC2, next to the Guildhall in the heart of the City of London. Aldermanbury, which means alderman's manor, dates back to the 14th century and is thought to have been named after Aethelred, the son in law of Alfred the Great, who was once Governor of London.

The Guildhall Library houses an extensive collection of books, maps and photographs which offer an insight into London's colourful history. The library, which is open from 09.30am-17.00 Monday to Saturday, holds various exhibitions and provides a popular enquiry service specialising in London history. The Guildhall Art Gallery, which reopened in 1999, is situated next to the Grand Hall of the Guildhall, in Guildhall Yard EC2.

Aldermanbury is home to the St Lawrence Jewry church, which also stands on Gresham Street. St Lawrence Jewry dates back to the 12th century and was rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren between 1671-77, after receiving extensive damage in the Great Fire of London. St Lawrence Jewry, which has an entrance on Guildhall Yard, was again restored in the 1950's after bomb damage in World War Two. St Lawrence Jewry is now the official place of worship of the Corporation of London and the the Lord Mayor. The Chartered Insurance Institute are also located in this area, at 20 Aldermanbury EC2. The Insurance Institute provide lectures, visits and advice on professional development across the insurance industry.

Aldermanbury is close to a number of places of interest within the City of London, including the Bank of England building (300m south-east) and the Royal Exchange, home to fashion boutiques from Gucci, Hermes and Paul Smith (350m south-east). The Barbican, Europe's largest arts centre, is located 600m north of Aldermanbury. Visitors can enjoy a variety of films, concerts and dramas within the Barbican, which is also home to the Searcy's restaurant and the Waterside Cafe. The world famous Museum of London is situated 300m north-west of Aldermanbury on London Wall EC2.

Aldermanbury is close to a number of London Underground and railway stations and many bus routes serve this area from destinations across London, such as the 43 from London Bridge and the 205 from Kings Cross. Bank Station, which is linked to Monument Underground Station, provides Central, Circle, District, Northern and Waterloo & City line services, is located 450m south-east of Aldermanbury. Docklands Light Railway (DLR) services also run from Bank, to destinations including Greenwich, London City Airport and Stratford. Other stations close to Aldermanbury include St Paul's (450m south-west), Barbican (600m north-west) and Moorgate (400m north-east).
