Baker Street W1 is located in the north of the London W1 postcode area in the West End, running south from its section in the NW1 area, through Marylebone Road NW1 into Orchard Street, which leads to Oxford Street. Baker Street, which has junctions with streets including Dorset Street W1, George Street W1, Blandford Street and Crawford Street, was built in 1755 by William Baker, on land leased from the Portman family, the ground owners. Baker Street is today home to a wide range of shops, restaurants and international company headquarters.

Baker Street, which runs parallel to Gloucester Place, is home to a variety of restaurants, serving a wide range of international cuisine. The Galvin restaurant, which stands at 66 Baker Street W1, provides mouthwatering French and European dishes in a warm, relaxed environment under the guidance of Michellin starred chef brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin. Open daily for lunch and dinner, Galvin, which has an extensive wine menu, won the coveted Best Newcomer Award in the Tatler Restaurant Awards 2006. Another popular restaurant on Baker Street is the Lebanese Al Fawar, which provides a wide range of traditional Lebanese dishes, with vegetarian options and a takeaway service, at its premises at 50 Baker Street.

Baker Street is home to the Sherlock Holmes Museum, located at its northern end at 221b Baker Street. The Transport for London Lost Property Office is also situated on Baker Street at number 220. Baker Street lies close to a number of places of interest within west London, including Regent's Park (300m north) and the Royal Academy of Music, 500m east on Marylebone Road. Another London park in close to Baker Street is Hyde Park, located 700m south-west next to Park Lane W1 in Mayfair.

Baker Street lies close to the shopping areas of Edgware Road, New Bond Street and Oxford Street, home to stores such as Marks & Spencer, House of Fraser and Selfridges. Baker Street is home to the Screen on Baker Street cinema, which stands at 96-98 Baker Street, close to the junction of Paddington Street. The Wallace Collection, a vast collection of works from artists including Rembrandt and Rubens, can be found in Hertford House, 250m east of Baker Street on Manchester Square.

Baker Street is well served by buses, licensed (black) taxis and the London Underground network, while National Rail services run from Marylebone Station, 450m west of Baker Street. Baker Street Underground Station provides Bakerloo, Circle, Jubilee and Metropolitan line services to destinations including Bond Street and Oxford Circus. Other London Underground stations in close proximity to Baker Street include Marble Arch (400m south-west) and Regent's Park (800m east).
