Aldersgate located in the City of London Financial District was named after the gate first built by the Romans but demolished over 250 years ago. Now Aldersgate is a thriving street steeped in history. At the northern end is Clerkenwell Road, close to the middle is the famous Barts Hospital and at the southern end is Newgate and St Pauls Cathedral. The Barbican underground station is in the middle of Aldersgate Street which is still in london Zone 1 and serves the Circle, Hammersmith, Metropolitan lines.
