To be found on Aldersgate is the church of St Botolph Aldersgate and also the location of the meeting room where John Wesley was converted in 1738, which is marked by a wall plaque. Wesley attended a Moravian meeting in Aldersgate Street, where he heard a reading of Luthers preface to the Epistle to the Romans, and he consequently wrote "I felt my heart strangely warmed" and revolutionised the character and method of his ministry.
