Aldersgate, located in the City of London Financial District was named after the gate first built by the Romans but demolished over 250 years ago. Now Aldersgate is a thriving street steeped in history.

To be found on Aldersgate is the church of St Botolph Aldersgate and also the location of the meeting room where John Wesley was converted in 1738, which is marked by a wall plaque. Wesley attended a Moravian meeting in Aldersgate Street, where he heard a reading of Luthers preface to the Epistle to the Romans, and he consequently wrote "I felt my heart strangely warmed" and revolutionised the character and method of his ministry.
