The Barbican is a world famous arts centre located at Silk Street EC2Y 8DS, close to Aldersgate Street EC1 and London Wall EC2.
The Barbican was constructed in the 1970's and was officially opened in March 1982 by Queen Elizabeth II. The Barbican, Europe's largest multi-arts complex, is home to three cinemas, a theatre and bookshop, as well as a variety of bars and restaurants. There is a great deal to see in the spacious Barbican complex, from performances by key figures in classical and jazz music to displays from contemporary and established artists, in the diverse Barbican Art Gallery.
Hotels near the Barbican are upmarket and cater for the business person visiting the City of London financial district. If you are staying several days or more then you may consider the Minc Apartments on Cock Lane, just a few hundred metres from the Barbican. The Rookery Hotel is also very close to the Barbican and also offers easy access to the Bank of England, St Pauls Cathedral, the Old Bailey and the Inns of Court. Other places to dine within the Barbican complex include the Balcony Bistro, which serves quality European dishes from a regularly changing menu and the Waterside Cafe, where guests can enjoy a drink or snack next to the lake here, which has water fountains and ornamental fish on display.
The Barbican is close to a number of places of interest within the City of London, such as the popular Museum of London (450m south-west) and the Guildhall (500m south). The Barbican is also within walking distance of the Bank of England headquarters, Mansion House and the Royal Exchange, all located close to Bank Station, 800m south-east.
The Barbican benefits from superb transport links due to its central location near stations such as St Paul's (600m south) and Liverpool Street, which provides London Underground and rail services, including the Stansted Express (700m east). Barbican Underground Station, which provides Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan line services, is located 300m west of the Barbican on Aldersgate Street and Long Lane EC1. There are 4 car parks at the Barbican, which also provides free phones to order taxis at various points inside the complex. Buses services to the Barbican include the 55 and 43 routes. The City Thameslink Station, which runs services to destinations including Kings Cross and London Bridge, is located 700m south-west of the Barbican on Ludgate Hill EC4.

The Oakwood at Bow Lane Apartments are modern stylish suites, located only three minutes away from St Paul's Cathedral in the area between the City and the West End.
