The razzle-dazzling story of showgirl Roxie Hart and her adventures in the jazz underworld just celebrated its 10th anniversary in London with its transfer to the Cambridge, the theatre where it all began for Kander & Ebb's classic in 1973. And this particular glamorous juggernaught shows no signs of slowing just yet - currently starring Suzanne Shaw, once of Popstars' Hearsay and now a widely acclaimed West End actress is booking until mid-2010, and it's one of the best shows in town, with little of the slackness that can affect some of the other long-running musicals.

The theatre itself has been many things throughout its 80 years, including a cinema, temporary ice rink and trade film centre - now best known for big musicals, it housed both Jerry Springer - The Opera for two years, and Return to the Forbidden Planet for four, the show that opened the floodgates for the slew of short-lived 'jukebox musicals' in recent years where well-known pop songs are wedded to a plot as thin as the audience's patience at being served up such dross.

The Cambridge is smack in the middle of Covent Garden, a short walk from the alternative haven of Neal's Yard with its superb organic cafes and health shops; Neal Street, a centre for street-smart fashion and trainers in particular; and over-the-road Belgo is a Belgian cellar restaurant that comes highly recommended for lovers of mussels, frites and extremely potent monk-brewed weisbeers. Get there around 6pm for the Beat The Clock menu, where the time you eat is the price you pay, i.e. £6 at 6pm, £6.50 at half past.
