Kingsway is a major London road running south from High Holborn, in the London Borough of Camden, to Aldwych, which is on The Strand in the City of Westminster. Originally built in the 1900´s as part of a major redevelopment to assist in cleaning up an area which was previously a web of slum dwellings and small streets, it is now home to shops, bars and numerous buildings of the University of London.
With Holborn and Temple Underground stations being the closest and most easily accessible from Kingsway, there are many streets and shopping districts at your fingertips. Kingsway borders the eastern side of Covent Garden in the West End therefore you don't need to stray far for a world of shopping and entertainment.
There are numerous bars scattered down Kingsway such as the chain bars All Bar One and Pitcher & Piano that are both stylish and comfortable and have great selections of wine, beer, spirits and modest pub style menus. The Shakespeare´s Head is a traditional pub and great for families with children.
Peacock Theatre can be found on Kingsway with the New London Theatre on Drury Lane and the Fortune Theatre London on Russell Street nearby.
Cafe Nero, noted as being the nation's best coffee chain, Pret a Manger, selling upmarket fast food, and the American coffee chain Starbucks are all located along Kingsway and all are great to stop in for a coffee or a snack.
There are also a number of decadent buildings on and around Kingsway, most of them being elegant hotels. The Waldorf Hotel is located at Aldwych and this magnificent Edwardian building is a hotel of exceptional appearance and service. Nearby in the heart of Covent Garden is the privately owned Kingsway Hall Hotel, a luxurious retreat after a day of walking the pavements of Kingsway and neighbouring streets. Close by is the Grange Holborn Hotel and the very hip Covent Garden Hotel.
All in all Kingsway itself offers a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants, and is a gateway to the delights of the West End.
