The area of postcode London WC1 is a subdivision of London WC or Western Central London, the area around Islington and Camden.

London WC1 is centered around Russell Square with general boundaries being High Holborn(south), Grays Inn (east), Euston Road (north) and Tottenham Court Road (west). This area of WC1 is mostly in Bloomsbury, a central London district including Bloomsbury, Holborn, Kings Cross and St Pancras. There are many hotels in London WC1. They range from B&B to 4 star. Notable hotels in London WC1 include the 4 star The Russell Hotel in Russell Square and the 3 star ever popular St Giles Hotel off Tottenham Court Road near to the Dominion Theatre and Oxford Street.

In our opinion, generally speaking, WC1 is an area of contrasting hotel accommodation ( see map at top of page ). The north around Kings Cross did have a very bad reputation but is now being cleaned up, however we do not recommend this part of WC1 to single females or children as nighttime still brings out the undesirables. Russell Square and the area south and west ( postcode WC1B, Bloomsbury ) is very acceptable as a tourist area and one we recommend as its more safe and offers easy walking access to many areas of shops, attractions and restaurants. Hotels in the south of this area are 3 to 5 star and are slightly more expensive than the rival tourist area of Kensington. Hotels around the north of the area at Kings Cross tend to be budget with a couple of exceptions and you should check out the distance to the underground in this area as some hotels can be up to half a mile from a station.

Important points of interest in London WC1 include Russell Square, British Museum, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and the British Medical Association, University of London Senate House Library and several of its colleges (University College London, Birkbeck, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Oriental and African Studies and the Royal Veterinary College), Great Ormond Street Hospital, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, University College Hospital and the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital.
