St Pauls Cathedral hotels
St Pauls Cathedral is one of London's greatest landmarks. It is located in the City of London to the east of the West End and Covent Garden. Originally the site of a Roman Temple, this is thought to be the fourth actual cathedral to be built here and was masterminded by Christopher Wren in the 1600's. The previous "Old St Pauls" had been destoyed in 1666 by the Great Fire of London and Wren was engaged as the architect. The project took 40 years to complete and Wren lived to see the completion. The dome, perhaps the most memorable part of St Pauls, was originally rejected but Wren persuaded his masters to allow it.St Pauls Cathedral is now an essential visit to tourists although it is worth noting that no photography is allowed inside the building. Whilst visiting here there are other things worth seeing such as The Old Bailey.
How to get to St Pauls Cathedral
St. Paul's Tube Station, Cheapside, LONDON, EC2V 6AA
St Pauls underground station is located within Zone 1 and is on the Central Line which runs from west central London through Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road stopping at St Pauls before continuing to Liverpool Street Station. It is 100 metres from St Pauls.
Blackfriars Station, Queen Victoria Street, London, EC4V 4DY
Blackfriars Mainline and Underground Station serves south London, Luton and Thameslink stations between Bedford and Brighton. The underground has links to the Circle and the District lines and is is Zone 1. The station is within 300 metres of St Pauls Cathedral. |
