Wardour Street is the busiest area in London’s chic & funky Soho, running from Leicester Square to Oxford Street, passing through Chinatown on the way and crossing Shaftesbury Avenue. It´s cool, it´s home to most of the British Film Industry and definitely worth strolling down – it’s in Soho after all!
Any of the West End underground stations will get you Wardour Street. Tottenham Court Road, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Circus and Covent Garden are all within a few minutes walking distance.
For entertainment, Wardour Street is great value. The bars and restaurants on and surrounding Wardour Street are arguably some of the best in the world. And being the heartbeat of China Town, there are a plethora of Chinese eateries to choose from. The list of great restaurants and cafes to dine in is endless and the following is just a little taste of what’s on order.
Mezza Cafe is a stylish eatery always serving delicious inexpensive food and, despite always being very busy, the service is speedy with a smile! And then for something different, there’s Floridita, a South American flavoured restaurant, located in a basement, that brings a little bit (actually, a lot!) of Havanan spice and culture to your night. The fabulous Soho Spice is also located on Wardour Street. You can watch the ´chef´s show´ in the kitchen in the ground floor restaurant while preparing your tasty dinner and the ´Spice Lounge´ is the late night bar with a dance floor and cocktail bar. A must visit, for lovers of hummus, is the cafe Hummus Bros. Served with warm pita bread is their delicious secret-recipe hummus and it really is mouth-watering.
Freedom is a colourful, artsy bar with a great atmosphere and hosts good clubbing nights. The Dog House is another popular watering hole as is O Bar, one of Soho´s busiest, ambient bars. You’ll also find chain bars the Slug & Lettuce and Waxy O´Conners along the strip.
The Odeon Cinema chain has a small cinema on Wardour Street devoted to foreign and independent films and is located in The Swiss Centre.
Just off Wardour Street is Berwick Street and it is here where you will find the Berwick Street Market. The market is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm and it´s great for fruit & vegetables, house-hold items and other bits & bobs.
Something else to note when strolling down Wardour Street is the fabulous stationary shop Scribbler. It really is fun – fantastic greeting cards, gifts, postcards and stationary. Definitely worth popping in, you’ll always walk out with something in your hands!
Wardour Street is fab, funky, delicious and full of energy. Great entertainment all round.
