King William Street EC3 is a major stretch of road in the centre of the Square Mile within the City of London. King William Street was originally constructed as an approach to London Bridge, between 1829 – 35 and named after the reigning monarch at the time. There are a number of historical buildings on and around King William Street. These include St Magnus the Martyr church, one of the City's oldest places of worship, located at the southern end of King William Street, on Lower Thames Street EC3. Old Billingsgate Market, formerly a major fishing market which is now a modern events venue, is located 200m from King William Street, at 1 Old Billingsgate Walk EC3. This is next to the impressive Custom House building. This area is ideal for walks along sections of the River Thames, along Grants Quay EC3 and Custom House Walk EC3.

King William Street is 100m from the Monument, the 62m high structure designed by Sir Christopher Wren between 1671-1677 to mark the Great Fire of London. The Monument, which is positioned on Fish Hill Street EC3 close to Pudding Lane EC3, has a viewing platform from which visitors can experience amazing views of London and its famous buildings, including St Pauls Cathedral and the BT Tower. Monument Underground Station stands close to this landmark at the junction of Cannon Street EC3 and Gracechurch Street. Gracechurch Street is home to a variety of restaurants and bars including The New Moon, a popular drinking establishment located at 88 Gracechurch Street. Bishopsgate EC3 can be found at the northern end of Gracechurch Street. From here visitors can view the breathtaking Tower 42, controversial Lloyds Building and the contemporary Swiss Re structure, widely known as the 'Gherkin'. The intricately decorated Leadenhall Market is also located in this area on Lime Street EC3.

King William Street leads into Princes Street at its northern point next to Bank Underground. The Bank of England building is located here and has one section on Threadneedle Street EC3, which leads to Bishopsgate. The Royal Exchange is located between Threadneedle Street and Cornhill EC3. Home to many designer fashion boutiques such as Gucci and Paul Smith, the Royal Exchange also has the Artisan Gallery, which holds various exhibitions throughout the year and displays work in the courtyard here. There are plenty of places to eat in this busy area, including the Pavarotti Sandwich Bar at 21 Royal Exchange, which is popular with workers and tourists alike. The Abacus bar, located at 24 Cornhill EC3 is 100m from King William Street. There are two lounge bars here with an extensive menu that is reasonably priced and a nightclub that is open till early hours, for a fun night out in the City.
