London EC3 is a postal district located in the City of London centering around Fenchurch Street. It runs from Bank in the west to The Minories in the east and from Houndsditch in the north down to the River Thames in the south. The West End is 3 km to the west of EC3 and south, across the River Thames, is London SE1. London EC3 is a commercial area dominated by the City of London and many of its financial institutions including Lloyds of London and Societe Generale.

Residential areas are almost non existent and the area tends to be quiet in the late evenings and weekends. Hotel accommodation in EC3 tends to be expensive Monday to Thursday and discounted at weekends due to the absence of business travellers. Covent Garden is only 2.5 km to the west so at weekends it is possible to book a good London hotel at cheap rates.
LONDON EC3 LANDMARK AND ATTRACTION GUIDES
Major landmarks in London EC3 are headed up by the Tower of London, a top 10 London landmark and visitor attraction. Other places of interest are London Metropolitan University (spread over several postal districts), Tower 42, Lloyds of London, The Royal Exchange Shopping Center, Leadenhall Market, Pudding Lane where the Great Fire of London started in 1666, the Monument built by Wren to commemorate the Great Fire and close to Tower Hill Station there are parts of the original London Wall. On Mincing Lane is the Plantation Place, a huge office complex sat on almost one block of property occupied predominantly by Accenture, here you can experience top end Italian Cuisine at Bertorelli. London EC3 contains the only surviving timber framed structure in the City, the Hoop and Grapes pub on Aldgate High Street, the Great Fire stopped just metres before this building.

London EC3 has good transport links including 5 underground stations, Tower Hill, Monument, Bank, Aldgate and Fenchurch Street. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) runs from the City Airport to Bank and Tower Gateway which is just to the east of Tower Hill. Canary Wharf is only 5 short stops travel on the DLR. For those wanting to visit EXCEL, the DLR travels directly there in only 8 stops. If you are arriving via Eurostar, then the Waterloo and City Line runs direct from Waterloo Station to Bank. From Bank Underground you can travel 5 stops on the Central Line to Oxford Circus. Fenchurch Street Station ( opened in 1841) is also in London postcode EC3 and is a mainline station ( no direct underground connection) to Tilbury, Southend and Chafford Hundred (Lakeside Shopping Centre). A rather novel way of accessing the area of EC3 and of particular interest to tourists is the River Service which docks at Tower Millennium Pier just next to the Tower of London and only a 5 minute walk from Tower Hill Underground Station. Just outside of the area to the north of London EC3 is Liverpool Street Station with mainline and underground links. The Station is located on Bishopsgate on the north border of EC3.
LONDON EC3 HOTEL GUIDESSuprisingly, hotels in the City of London are not as prevalent as you may think with there being maybe 15 in total. These cater for the weekday business traveller visiting the City financial institutions. Consequently the weekends are quiet and hotel rates reflect this as they tempt the leisure traveller out of the usuall high priced West End into the lower priced and higher quality City hotels. One to check out is the Crowne Plaza London City located close to Blackfriars Bridge close to St Pauls Cathedral and only a 20 minute walk to Covent Garden and a 5 minute walk to Southbank.
