The London Metropolitan University’s London City Campus consists of nine different sites within the City of London and Aldgate, in east London. Two of these sites are located within the EC3 area of the City and include the London Metropolitan University site at 31 Jewry Street EC3, at the northern end of the Minories EC3, close to Aldgate Underground Station, on Aldgate High Street EC3. The Jewry Street site is home to the London Metropolitan University’s Department of Economics. The Tower Hill site of the London Metropolitan University, formerly the City of London Polytechnic, is situated at 100 Minories EC3, close to Tower Hill and America Square EC3. The Tower Hill site is home to the Department of Business and Computing.
The London Metropolitan University site at 31 Jewry Street EC3 is close to a number of major roads within the City of London, such as Bevis Marks EC3, Leadenhall Street EC3 and Fenchurch Street. There are a number of impressive buildings and places of interest within this area, including Plantation Place, located at 31-35 Fenchurch Street. Plantation Place, which is located on the site of a former Roman colony, was opened in 2004 and has sections on Rood Lane EC3 and Mincing Lane EC3. The London Underwriting Centre can be found on Mincing Lane, within the Minster Court complex, which also houses various retail outlets and restaurants, including the popular Ball Brothers bar and restaurant, which has an extensive wine menu, with over 100 choices.
The London Metropolitan University Department of Business is 50m from the Tower of London and 200m from Tower Bridge, which can be reached from the Minories, via Tower Bridge Approach E1. Other places of interest close to the Tower Hill campus of the London Metropolitan University include Trinity Square and Trinity Square Gardens. These award winning gardens provide a perfect environment in which to unwind, within the City of London. Trinity Square is home to a number of impressive Edwardian style townhouses, designed by Sir Edwin Cooper. The All Hallows by the Tower church, often claimed to be the oldest surviving church within the City, is 200m west of the Tower Hill campus, on Byward Street EC3. The Monument can also be reached from here, via Lower Thames Street EC3 to its location on Monument Street and Fish Street Hill EC3. The 41 metre high viewing platform of the Monument provides amazing views of the London skyline. Landmarks that can be seen from the Monument include the modern Swiss Re tower, Tower 42 and the controversial Lloyds of London Building.
The London Metropolitan University City campuses are close to a number of mainline and London Underground Stations, including Aldgate, which is on the Bakerloo and Circle lines. Aldgate East Underground Station, served by the District and Hammersmith & City lines, is located 200m from the Minories EC3 along Whitechapel High Street E1. Liverpool Street Station is 600m from the Minories, via Houndsditch EC3 and Bishopsgate. Fenchurch Street railway station, which provides services to east London and Essex, is located between the Jewry Street and Tower Hill campuses of the London Metropolitan University, between Crosswall EC3 and Coopers Row, close to Vine Street EC3.
