London Snow Day Photos: Borough Market and the South Bank
Snow! And lots of it. According to the BBC, The Guardian and a whole host of other sources, the snow shower that started Sunday and lasted all through yesterday was the heaviest snowfall in 18 years. Bad news if you had to catch a flight, train or bus (or perhaps still have to). Good news if you fancied a fireside pint in a pub or day out with your camera.
I hiked all around Central London yesterday, in search of both cosy pubs and photogenic winter scenes. I loved being outside for most of the day and particularly enjoyed my time on the South Bank and poking about Borough Market. This part of town is a favourite of mine anytime. But, add just a few inches of snow and – wow – it becomes even more evocative and photo-worthy!
Of course, once it warms up again, we’re likely to have a less than attractive mucky mess on our hands, but with temperatures set to remain at or near freezing for the next few days, it looks like the white stuff’s gonna be with us for quite some time. In fact, there might even by more of it on the way this week!

I saw that Vinopolis was on one of the pics.
I spent a great afternoon there at Christmas attending one of their wine tasting courses.
Highly recommended for novices like me !
I’ve been to Vinopolis a few times. Yes, it’s a great place … and not just wine either! They offer rum tastings, have their own micro-brewery and more.
I quite often recommend to tourists that they sample the Southbank.
In a nutshell, Embankment tube to see the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey then across the bridge to visit the London Eye.
After that, the next 2 miles of Southbank heading east has something of interest every few hundred yards - Tate Modern, Shakespeares Globe Theatre, Millennium Bridge, Clink prison, CuttySark, Neals Yard, Oxo Tower, London Dungeon, Southwark Cathedral, Vinopolis, Hays Galleria and HMS Belfast.
Then cross Tower Bridge to see the Tower of London. After that jump the River Boat back to Embankment.
This trip is also a brilliant photo opportunity.
