Photos: Abbey Road
Immortalized in the title of the last album released by the Beatles before dissolving in 1970, Abbey Road is an otherwise quiet and rather nondescript residential street in the North London district of St John’s Wood. The icon photograph of the Fab Four crossing Abbey Road used for the album cover was taken on the 8th of August in 1969 by photographer Iain Macmillan right outside Abbey Road Studios where the album was being recorded and produced. Today the zebra crossing where the photo was taken is a popular destination for Beatles fans from around the world, as is Abbey Road Studios where a makeshift graffiti memorial to the Beatles features remembrances, artwork and words of gratitude for the many years of brilliant music.
Abbey Road is easily enough reached by foot with the London Underground stations Maida Vale and St John’s Wood Tube just a short walk away. A number of bus routes run along Abbey Road toward more central locations too. Other nearby attractions include Regent’s Park, Madam Toussard’s and Lord’s Cricket Ground.
