Root Ginger: A Study of Red Hair
Currently on exhibit until the 8th of March at East End gallery (and public relations office) Idea Generation is Root Ginger: A Study of Red Hair by photographer Jenny Wicks.
A series of gorgeous and intimate photographic portraits of red heads, Root Ginger pays tribute “to a trait that is most common in Scotland and Ireland but is scattered around the world.” For photographer Wicks, the project was an opportunity to ponder the social aspect of having red hair. Says Wicks:
Red hair is the last bastion of political incorrectness and although you cannot compare it wholly with the treatment of other mintority groups I think it does illustrate how some members of society act towards people who simply look different to them … Red hair conjures up a plethora of stereotypical labels; Irish, Scottish, fiery, pasty, unattractive (men), beautiful (women), pre-Raphaelite, etc etc …
Opening times for the exhibition are Monday - Friday 10am to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday noon to 5pm. Idea Generation Gallery is located at 11 Chance St, E2 7JB.
