The O2 is what London has been waiting for since 1871 - the first purpose-built music venue since the Royal Albert Hall was built. And it's much more than that. This Greenwich landmark has good transport making it a great day or night out, no matter where your London hotels booked.
Under the iconic domed roof there's indigO2 - a state-of-the-art live music club, an 11-screen multiplex cinema, The O2 bubble exhibition centre and an entire village of bars, restaurants and other leisure attractions in Entertainment Avenue. Oh, and let's not forget the awe-inspiring O2 arena. The O2 arena has a massive capacity of 20,000 and plays host to legends of the music world, top sporting events (including for the 2012 London Olympics), amazing theatrical shows for the whole family and much more. Stars that have dazzled crowds here include Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Kylie, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder and The Rolling Stones. It takes a big venue to draw the big names.
Hotels near the O2 Arena
Our recommendation is to stay at a hotel close to the Jubilee Tube line which travels directly to the O2 Arena. This means that you can stay in the Southwark area, the Oxford Street area or even St Johns Wood at the Danubius Hotel which is outside the congestion zone and has onsite car parking. All these areas will enable you to travel directly and quickly to the O2.
Tickets
The O2 is open from 9am until late with the last admission at 1am. Cost and availability of tickets depend on the event - the box office is open from midday and closes at 9pm (7pm on non-event days).
Even if you don't have a ticket to a particular event, there's a great day or night out to be had in Entertainment Avenue. Like a small village, covering half the floor space at The O2, it's packed with restaurants, bars, clubs and boasts a multiplex cinema. And you'll be truly blown away by range of delicious food on offer - from sushi to rib-eye, there's something for everyone's taste.
Getting to The O2
The O2 is on the Jubilee Line at North Greenwich (Zone 2). The Jubilee Line is London Underground's only line that connects with every other, making it highly accessible to even the cheapest hotels in London. London Bridge or Stratford are 10 minutes away, Waterloo 15 minutes and Bond Street 20 minutes. The walk from North Greenwich tube station is about 200m.
If coming on the Docklands Light Railway The O2 is one stop via the Jubilee Line from Canary Wharf or Canning Town. Charlton mainline station is a 10-minute bus ride on a 486, 472, N472 or 161 bus to North Greenwich underground station.
There is an O2 Shuttle Bus service that runs to Charing Cross which is well-linked with London's extensive night bus network and Waterloo station. This is a one-way-only service for getting back after events and leaves from North Greenwich bus station.
Thames Clippers operate The O2 Express when there is an event at the arena which runs direct from Waterloo Pier to QEII Pier at The O2 in less than 30 minutes. Departures are every 30 minutes in the 3 hours leading-up to an event and return departures start 15mins after an event finishes. At other times Thames Clippers run regular-scheduled commuter services on the River Thames between Central London and The O2 with departures from major piers every 20 minutes. The high-speed catamarans are spacious and comfortable as well as fast! You will get stunning views of London's most famous landmarks only possible from the river. There really is no better way to arrive in style at The O2.
