London Theatre Breaks
Oxford Street and Oxford Circus are located in the very heart of London in the West End. Oxford Street runs from Marble Arch in the west for around one mile to Tottenham Court Road in the west. Victorian planners decided to call London's major circular road junctions circus's, hence at the junction of Oxford Circus and Regents Street we have Oxford Circus.
Oxford Circus is one of the busiest areas of London and is home to one of the busiest underground stations which is directly beneath the circus itself and has almost 70 million users a year travelling via its 6 platforms. This "tube" station is an interchange between the Central, Victoria and Bakerloo Lines and is in Travelcard Zone 1.
From here you can walk to many favoured London attractions such as Soho, Carnaby Street, Bond Street, Hamleys Toy store and the London Palladium. The shops around Oxford Circus are prolific and tend to be the chain store high street favourites such as H&M, Top Shop, Topman, Benetton and French Connection. Most shops in this tourist area are open from 10am to 6 or 7pm. Many also open on Sundays from late morning to 6pm with late nights on Thursday. Nearby at 236 Oxford Street is NikeTown where each week they put on special events.
Each Christmas Oxford Street is decorated with festive lights. The famous 'switching-on' ceremony is usually in late November, when a major celebrity turns on the decorations.
The immediate vicinity of Oxford Circus offers several hotels but all are upmarket, these include The Langham, Radisson Edwardian Berkshire, The Selfridge Hotel and the Cumberland Hotel. For those on a budget, there are hotels within one mile of Oxford Circus that offer lower rates, these are to the north of here in Marylebone / Baker Street and also at Marble Arch and Baywater. 2 miles to the south west is Kensington which has many hotels at great rates and is only a few minutes travel by underground or taxi.
