With London's plushest postcode, Mayfair, to the east, Park Lane runs north - south from Marble Arch to Hyde Park Corner and along the eastern section of London's stunning Hyde Park.
Prior to World War II, Park Lane was a country lane lined with incredibly large mansions. Now, this famous address is a 6 lane urban motorway, divided by central reservation, but although super busy it remains upmarket and home to some of London's top luxury hotels.
Several underground stations such as Hyde Park Corner, Marble Arch, Bond Street, Green Park and Knightsbridge will have you walking down this upper class thoroughfare.
Park Lane is always busy with traffic, but it is great for a stroll, if for nothing else but to people-watch! The many car show-rooms that line the street are a magnet for car-lovers and these, along with the upmarket shops and restaurants, attract the who's who of the who's who! Everyone loves a good star-spotting session and Park Lane is perfect for this!
The Park Lane ´Mini´ showroom is the largest of its kind in the world. The showroom is an enormous space with the latest model Minis on display. For anyone with a car obsession - test drive away!
Another great star-spotting area just off Park Lane, is Old Park Lane where the infamous, and celebrity favourite, Japanese restaurant Nobu resides. Although very expensive and difficult to get a table without booking well in advance, the entire experience of dining here is truly delicious! The menu and service is exceptional and the atmosphere is an absolute delight - as are the views of Hyde Park!
The decadent buildings along the strip are mostly luxury hotels. The Hilton London Park Lane is a landmark in London and is the flagship hotel in the Hilton chain. Located in the heart of Mayfair with stunning views of Hyde Park and the city, this 28 storey stylish hotel is central to all the sight-seeing highlights of London.
Nearby is The Dorchester, London. Not only one of an international collection of glamorous and exquisite hotels, The Dorchester Hotel is famous for winning the Tea Council's award for Best Afternoon Tea in London for 2000 and 2002! There are three different tea services, served to you in the Promenade - Traditional Afternoon, Champagne Tea (includes a glass of pink champagne!) and High Tea which is served later in the day or early evening. If you do plan on including this extravagant tea break in your itinerary, make sure you book, for it's no Starbucks!
If the prices of Park Lane frighten you, then close by there are the Holiday Inn Oxford Circus Hotel, and the Cumberland Hotel, both are walking distance to Park Lane. Just 300 metres from Park Lane is the newly refurbished Flemings Hotel Mayfair which is getting great reviews and has sensible rates.
Apart from stylish boutique shopping, fine dining, superb stay-overs and celeb-spotting, Park Lane is close to the West End's theatre-land and London's favourite shopping districts Oxford Street and Mayfair.
For a slightly different type of entertainment near to Park Lane, you could join the gang of thousands at The Duke of Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner for Friday Night Skate to zoom around London on skates! This night is not for amateurs, but for those that aren't so quick on the blades there is London Skate on Wednesday nights! Fun for all - if your game!
Park Lane is the second most expensive property to purchase on the Monopoly game board and when you visit, you'll understand why.
