The Royal Exchange is situated between Cornhill and Threadneedle Street, close to Bank Underground Station. This exclusive shopping area was originally the centre of commerce in the City of London. The original building and courtyard on this site was created in 1565 by Sir Thomas Gresham. After ceasing to be a major financial centre around 1939, the centre became home to many designer shops.
