| St Botolph Street is situated in the east of the City of London close to Aldgate High Street and Houndsditch. St Botolph Street was the site of four churches, built in the 10th and 11th centuries, that lined the main gates into the City of London. These churches were created for the safety and peace of those travelling in and out of London. One of these places of worship, St Botolph's Aldgate, can be found on St Botolph Street today. St Botolph's Aldgate is a brick and stone structure that faces south onto Aldgate High Street and has a distinctive obelisk spire.
