 Overview
The Sherlock Holmes Hotel, now owned by Park Plaza hotels, is located midway along Baker Street in the West End of London. The hotel recently underwent an internal refurbishment which included wireless internet connectivity, a new health spa and a bar serving tapas.
Location
The area surrounding the Sherlock Holmes is known as Marylebone which runs from Oxford Street in the south to Marylebone Station in the north. This area is generally upmarket, consisting of expensive apartment blocks and many unique bars and restaurants. Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street are an easy walk away. From Baker Street Underground, you can travel direct to Piccadilly Circus and Waterloo ( Eurostar) and also to Wembley. Marylebone Station is also only a few minutes walk a way with a high speed service to Birmimgham NEC. Lords Cricket Ground and Regents Park are also within a 15 minute walk.
Facilities
The Sherlock Holmes Hotel now offers 119 well fitted out superior bedrooms all with private bathroom and air conditioning. Every room has two telephone lines with two extensions. a nice feature is the presence of English, European and American sockets with both 110 and 220 volts. Standard features include a hair dryer, minibar, kettle, and a laptop safe. Wireless internet is also available in every room. The Public areas include a Bar / Grill which has a mesquite wood burning oven and a charcoal grill. Organic food plays a large part of the menu here.
There is a health and fitness facility offering a multi gym, cardiovascular equipment, free weights, Sauna, Steam room and various massage treatments.
Comments
The Sherlock Holmes hotel is in an area which is not usually first choice for travellers as its a tourist "backwater" of the West End not usually visited. It is in fact a good safe upmarket area worthy of consideration. Local attractions include Madame Tussauds, Marylebone High Street, Regents Park whilst Oxford Street is only 750m away with its huge department stores.
For a new 4 star class hotel, the prices are not usually over the top.
