Silk Street EC2 is located in the north of the City of London, running from Moor Lane EC2 to its northern intersection with Beech Street EC2 and Chiswell Street EC1. Silk Street, which shares a junction with Milton Street EC2, lies close to Moorgate EC2 and Moorfields EC2, home of Moorgate Underground Station. London Wall EC2, which runs through the heart of the City of London's financial district, is located 300m south of Silk Street. The busy areas of Shoreditch and Spitalfields are within easy walking distance of Silk Street.

Silk Street is home to the Barbican, Europe's largest multi arts centre, which hosts a wide range of film, music and stage productions from contemporary and established artists throughout the year. The Barbican, which was created in the 1970's and officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in March 1982, houses the Barbican Art Gallery and Barbican Library. The Barbican is home to the Searcy's restaurant and the Waterside Cafe, located by the Barbican's own lake opposite the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. The Barbican has 4 car parks and is open between 09.00am-23.00pm Monday to Saturday and from 12.00pm-23.00pm on Sundays and public holidays.

Silk Street is located close to many places of interest within the City, such as the popular Museum of London, situated 300m south-west on London Wall. Historical buildings close to Silk Street include the Guildhall, the headquarters of the Corporation of London, located on Gresham Street EC2. The Guildhall Art Gallery, Guildhall Clock Museum and the St Lawrence Jewry church stand alongside the Guildhall's Grand Hall in Guildhall Yard EC2. Finsbury Pavement EC2, home to high street stores including Gap and Marks & Spencer, is located 200m east of Silk Street next to Finsbury Square EC2.

Silk Street has excellent links to bus and London Underground services due to its central location within the City of London. Moorgate Station, which runs Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan and Northern line services, as well as National Rail trains, stands 150m south-east of Silk Street. Liverpool Street Station, which provides London Underground services across 4 lines to stations including Aldgate, Bank and St. Paul's, is situated 600m of Silk Street on Liverpool Street EC2, Sun Street EC2 and Bishopsgate EC2. Liverpool Street Station also runs National Rail services and is home to the London terminal of the Stansted Express. Other stations in close proximity to Silk Street include Barbican (400m west) and Old Street (600m north-east).
