St Paul's Underground Station is located in the west of the London EC2 area, with entrances on Cheapside EC2, Newgate Street EC1 and St Martin's le-Grand EC1. The present St Paul's Underground Station has been located on this site since July 1900, originally called Post Office Station until 1937, when the current Blackfriars Station changed its name from St. Paul's. St Paul's Underground Station stands at the western end of Cheapside, which leads east into Poultry EC2, close to Bank Station. St Paul's Station is situated 500m east of the City Thameslink railway station on Holborn Viaduct EC1, which provides First Capital Connect services to stations such as Blackfriars, Kings Cross St. Pancras and Gatwick Airport. Bus routes that serve St Paul's include the number 4, which provides services to and from Waterloo Station and the number 8, which stops at Oxford Circus, Shoreditch and Victoria Station, home to the London terminal of the Gatwick Express.
St. Paul's Underground Station is located close to many places of interest within the City of London, most notably St Paul's Cathedral, located on Ludgate Hill EC4. The Wren designed St Paul's Cathedral is one of the most famous images of London and has been fully restored in time for its 300th anniversary in 2008. St Paul's Underground Station can be found 400m south-west of the Guildhall, located on Gresham Street EC2. Visitors can explore the Grand Hall here, home of the Corporation of London, as well as experience the Guildhall Art Gallery, Guildhall Library, Clockmaker's Museum and the St Lawrence Jewry church, the place of worship of the Lord Mayor of London. The Barbican, Europe's larges multi arts centre, is located 600m north-east of St Paul's Underground Station. The Barbican holds a wide range of art, cinema and music events in a venue that houses shops, bars, restaurants and 4 car parks. St Paul's Station is one stop from Bank Underground Station, which stands next to the Bank of England building, Mansion House and the exclusive Royal Exchange, home to boutiques from Gucci, Hermes and Paul Smith among others.
