Threadneedle Street EC2 is located in the heart of the financial district of the City of London, stretching from Princes Street EC2 at is western end and leading east into Bishopsgate EC2. Threadneedle Street, which is thought to get his name from the three needles that appear in the arms of Needlemakers Company once located in this area, has junctions with Bartholomew Lane EC2, Finch Lane EC3 and Old Broad Street EC2, home of the impressive Tower 42.
Threadneedle Street EC3 is home to the Bank of England building and museum, which also stands on Lothbury EC2 and Princes Street. The Bank of England, known as the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street, is one of the most prominent buildings in this area, situated next to Bank Station. The Bank of England Museum, which has an entrance on Bartholomew Lane, is open Monday to Friday and provides interactive displays outlining the history of the Bank of England. The Royal Exchange is also located in this area, between Threadneedle Street, Cornhill EC3 and Finch Lane EC3. This exclusive shopping area is home to designer jewellers such as De Beers and Tiffany & Co., as well as exclusive shops from designers such as Gucci and Paul Smith. The Artisan Gallery, which has regular exhibitions and displays work in the Royal Exchange, is located at 35 Royal Exchange EC3V 3LN. Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London, can be found 50m south-west of Threadneedle Street, along Walbrook EC4.
The renowned Bonds restaurant is located within the Threadneedle Hotel, the former offices of Midland Bank, at 5 Threadneedle Street EC2R 8AY. This exclusive restaurant provides mouthwatering European dishes in a stylish yet informal atmosphere. Bank Underground Station, which is linked to Monument Station and provides Circle, Central, District, Northern and Waterloo & City line services, is located at the western end of Threadneedle Street. Bank Station also runs Docklands Light Railway (DLR) services, to destinations including Canary Wharf, London City Airport and Tower Gateway, located 200m from Fenchurch Street mainline station. Liverpool Street Station, can be reached from the eastern end of Threadneedle Street, via Bishopsgate. Bus, London Underground and National Rail services run from Liverpool Street, which is also home to the London terminal of the Stansted Express airport shuttle service.
