LONDON EC3 INDEX

Tower Millennium Pier is located 50m west of the Tower of London, next to Lower Thames Street, Sugar Quay Walk EC3 and Three Quays EC3. The Tower Millennium Pier was created in 2000 as part of a project by the Cross River Partnership to restore or create new piers along the river Thames, to increase the usage of Thames river shuttle boat services. Other piers in Blackfriars, Millbank, Waterloo and Westminster have been constructed or revamped in this drive to offer improved commuter and tourist boat services within London. A fast shuttle boat service is in operation from Tower Millennium Pier. This is operated by the Thames Clippers company and overseen by London River Services, part of the Transport for London organisation. Passengers can reach various destinations from Tower Millennium Pier including Blackfriars, Canary Wharf, Greenwich, London Bridge and the South Bank.

Tower Millennium Pier is 50m from The Tower of London, which can be entered via Traitors Gate. Visitors to the Tower of London can take part in the guided tours offered here, led by Yeoman Warders, more widely known as Beefeaters. The tours provide a great insight into the colourful history of the Tower of London, one of London’s most popular attractions. Tower Bridge is 300m east of Tower Millennium Pier and can be reached via Tower Bridge Approach E1. The peaceful area of St Katharine Docks is situated next to Tower Bridge and is home to a number of bars and restaurants, including Dickens Inn and the Medieval Banquet.

Tower Millennium Pier is close to a number of places of interest within the City of London including the historic Custom House, located on Lower Thames Street and Custom House Walk EC3. Custom House stands next to Old Billingsgate Market, towards London Bridge. Old Billingsgate Market, once the largest fish trading area in London, is now a major events venue, which has been the setting for film premier parties such as Matrix Reloaded and Spiderman 2. Fashion shows, conferences and concerts regularly take place at Old Billingsgate Market. The Monument is another major landmark in this area, 400m west of Tower Millennium Pier, along Monument Street and Fish Street Hill EC3, close to Pudding Lane, where the Great Fire of London started in 1966. Sights such as the BT Tower, Swiss Re building and Tower 42, formerly the NatWest tower, can all be seen from the viewing platform of the Monument.

Tower Millennium Pier is 800m from Bank Underground, which can be reached by heading north along King William Street EC3 from Lower Thames Street. Bank is home to the Bank of England building and museum, the exclusive Royal Exchange shopping area and Mansion House, the elaborate official residence of the Lord Mayor of London.

Tower Millennium Pier is close to a number of London Underground and mainline stations within the financial district of the City of London. Tower Hill Underground Station is 250m north on Trinity Square EC3. Aldgate Station is 600m north of Tower Millennium Pier on Aldgate High Street EC3, via the Minories. Monument Underground Station, which is linked to Bank, is 450 west of Tower Millennium Pier.
